Sweet
Seven Thousands Baaad Assss Comics (7000 BC)
is a confederation of Northern
New Mexico writers and artists interested in the medium of comics.
The last two decades have seen
the increasing recognition of comics as a unique and important
art form in the United States. 'Graphic Novels' have been awarded
prestigious literary and journalistic prizes, and original comic
art pages are in the permanent collections of many of the country's
most prominent museums.
7000 B.C. exists to promote an
understanding of the cultural significance of comic arts as well
as to provide opportunities and milieux for New Mexico cartoonists
to develop their personal styles and storytelling 'voices'. Members
of the group have conducted and organized workshops on comics
comprehension and comics creation for beginners and intermediates,
for teens, children, and adults throughout northern New Mexico.
Workshops have covered outlining, plotting, scripting, character
design, layout, and comics history.
7000 B.C. participants have recently
had their work featured in nationally distributed comics collections.
One member's first 'graphic novel' has been released by internationally
recognized publisher Top Shelf.
7000 B.C. has prepared an anthology
of short comics work for publication and national distribution.
"Hospital Stories" is the title of the book and the
unifying theme. This collection of stories provides insight into
the pain, hope, and humor that surround people's common experiences
with hospitals and the medical profession. The book is press-ready,
pending the funds to cover printing, promotion and distribution
costs.
